Without the presence of victims in the courtroom, individuals who commit crimes may not receive appropriate penalties. Courtwatch is a group of Northside residents who work to ensure that those most active in committing crimes in the neighborhood are more effectively prosecuted.  The group seeks more appropriate penalties by providing information to prosecutors and judges related to the impact that crimes have had on the community. In effect, they act as “witnesses” for crimes committed against the general community.  Courtwatch proactively tracks court proceedings and maintains a database of known offenders.  The police, prosecutors, judges, and city officials have recognized CourtWatch programs as one of the most effective tools there is for addressing crime.
